Summary of Main Points of Meeting:

  1. Welcome
  2. Charging students for use of College rooms
    • This was brought up at General Purposes Committee and new guidelines have been drawn up.
    • A charge will be applied only when extra cleaning is required (as assessed by a staff member). No mess, no charge.
    • Only direct costs of additional cleaning will be billed, and the rate will be under £10/hour.
    • All charges will be retrospective
  3. Rental agreement
    • See pdf file for the full details
    • Total rent revenue must increase by 3%+RPIx, ie 5.78%, under 5 year agreement
    • Refurbishment to N staircase will make rooms en-suite, they move into band B. Flats in I and N will become band A.
    • Some rooms in M and J will have gas fires replaced by electric fires and move up a band.
    • Rooms in 3 Gonville will be on a 39 week contract
    • Cheapest rooms (bands J and K) have prices frozen at 2003-4 levels. Compression of prices of middle bands since there is less to distinguish these.
  4. Popsuperstars
    • Jenny reported that CUSU's Popsuperstars competition is back, this time modelled on Popstars: the Rivals
    • Will be held around 7th February in the Great Hall
    • Semi-finals in Cocos, final in Ballare.
  5. Charity charge
    • James reported that the cheques had now all been paid out.

    • Election, Wednesday 4th Feburary.
    • Ballot box in plodge 8am-6pm, in slops 6pm-7pm, then counting before announcement of results in the bar
    • Two people to man the ballot box, JCRC and subcommittees to sign up for slots.
  7. June non-Event
    • Letter from James Moore was read out
    • Insufficient support from students for a scaled-down event
    • Ticket price of £15 could not cover food, cheap drink, entertainment
    • Decided to cancel before more costs incurred
    • Up to new committee to decide how to proceed
  8. Any other business
    • Ross explained why the figure of 39 guests at formal was misleading.
    • James answered some queries about when DCAC money would be paid out (soon).
    • Agreed to recommend to College that King's may share our squash courts while theirs are refurbished. We propose we will be able to pre-book before them and they will only be allowed to use one court.
    • Ross asked about getting funding for a speaker for the English Society. JCRC can approve amounts up to £100.
    • Jenny suggested a College darkroom, general interest. Wouldn't be too hard to set up, useful facility, perhaps form Photographic Society?
  9. Date of next meeting
    • To be confirmed by email.
