Minutes for JCR Committee Meeting, 11th June 2003

Summary of Main Points of Meeting:

1. Welcome
   • The minutes of the last meeting were approved
   • Matters arising:
     • Post it Notes have now arrived! They were inspected with great excitement.
2. Claiming back money
   • Tony: Confusion reigns about the correct way to 'spend money'
   • At the moment, we buy things ourselves and subsequently claim back
   • Would be better if JCR had its own account (like Event, Freshers' Week)
3. Harry Potter
   • Booking proceeding well, 70 so far
   • Owls booked for £70 complete with handler
   • Rachel organising decoration
   • Committee (and ents committee) to help set up in morning and some later
   • Guests are OK, but mainly for Downing people
   • Text being sent out after meeting
4. Light
   • Also booking well (70+ people)
   • Reminder email to encourage people to RSVP
   • Matthew: we should include 'LGB-friendly'-type message on publicity for ents as promised
5. MCR/JCR joint ent
   • To be at end of Freshers' Week, but run by JCR+MCR Ents
   • Held in Bar, MCR and Howard Court
   • We will split costs 50/50 with MCR.
6. Filesharing
   • Concerns: mainly financial, legal.
   • A few users causing most of the problem.
   • Fines? Cutting off connections?
   • We need to get out of the top 2-3 colleges in Cambridge
   • Matt and Ian meeting Rob Beardwell on Monday
7. Date of next meeting
   • To be confirmed by email
