Summary of Main Points of Meeting:

  1. Welcome
  2. College Redevelopment
    • B staircase and offices to be refurbished
    • Starts in 2004
    • To comply with Disability Discrimination Act
    • Extending office space; kitchens, ventilation systems modernised; fellows' parlour remodelled.
    • No aesthetic plans for Great Hall yet
    • Nothing too controversial. Total cost £1.3m essential, £2.5m non-essential
    • Plans in office for now, copy will be placed in bar at lunchtimes
  3. Welfare
    • Kenny A want a microwave since disabled students can't use ovens; Dick Taplin needs hurrying along.
    • Disclosing disabilities - Dick Taplin would like a full list of students with disabilities, where they live and what they need. Tough, he's not getting one. However, we need to make it easier for students who *want* to disclose their disability to get help.
    • M and N staircases are without heating, and the electric heaters blow the fuses... Poor state of affairs. (Committee voted to support witholding rent if situation did not improve)
  4. Open Meeting debrief
    • Wording of minutes modified so as not to annoy Master, not worth advertising ourselves to animal rights protestors
    • How do we get quorum?
      • Drag society people along to approve their budgets
      • Controversial motions (recall no-smoking motion) seem to work
      • Pizza supplies from Pizza Hut?
      • Hold an OM in the Great Hall at slops time
        • Would have to be a non-formal night
        • Guaranteed to get an excellent attendance
        • Would need PA system to be heard
        • Need to talk to Catering Department
        • Agreement to try a open meeting at slops as an experiment
  5. Budget
    • James reported on current status
    • DCAC committee meeting on Friday
    • Has spoken to Amol about Griffin; he can produce 4 issues (Freshers, Michaelmas, Lent, Easter) with 20 pages for £720.
    • We do already have a petty cash tin with £157.80 in, which no-one knew about
    • Meeting with Bursar re petty cash, bank account etc cancelled
    • Anomalies in last year's balance sheet (why are we paying the boatman's phone bill) need to be cleared up
