Emergency Taxi Scheme

You are here: Downing JCR » College Life » Welfare

  • Order your taxi and arrange to be picked up in a safe place.
  • If you do not have the amount of money needed, go to the Porter’s Lodge and sign out the cost of the taxi fare.
  • The next day, a bill will be placed in your pigeonhole requesting you to return the money.
  • As soon as possible, return the amount borrowed to the Porters.
  • If the money is not returned by the end of term, the cost will be added to your college bill.

We ask that you try and return the money before it is added to your college bill, as this will help keep the float full and allow as many people as possible to make use of the scheme.

Remember, only black cabs (also known here as Cambridge Hackney Carriages) are licensed to pick you up without a booking. All other taxis need a booking for them to legally drive you anywhere. Never get in a taxi you haven’t ordered, unless it is a black cab!

See this statement made by the Taxi Licensing Office for Cambridge City Council for more information, found on the website below.
