It's important to set up your browser in the right way so that the College doesn't get billed for more transatlantic internet traffic than it needs to. By connecting through the Cambridge proxy server, popular pages can be fetched from the local version rather than from the original. These instructions mainly relate to Internet Explorer and Windows, but it should be quite simple to adapt them for other browsers and operating systems. 1. Setting up a browser for the first timeIf you're using Windows, the Internet Connection Wizard will guide you through the set-up of your browser. It may run automatically when you try access the internet, otherwise you can find it through Start>Settings>Control Panel>Internet Options, then in the Connections tab click Setup... The steps to follow within the wizard are (click Next > after each one):
2. Configuring an existing set-upIn Windows, you can make the changes in the Internet Options dialogue, which you can find from Control Panel or (in Internet Explorer) Tools>Internet Options...
3. Changing your start pageTo change your start page, simply go to the Internet Options dialogue box and change the URL given in the Home Page section of the General tab. Why not set it to www.downingjcr.co.uk to keep up with the latest news :-)
